Privacy Policy
This page describes what information Whatever, You Pick uses to run the product and how that information supports sign-in, shortlists, voting, premium access, and public legal compliance.
What this policy covers
This policy explains how Whatever, You Pick collects, uses, and shares information when you use the website, iPhone app, and related services.
The service is built to help groups shortlist restaurants, vote together, and land on a meal plan without a long back-and-forth.
Information we collect
- Account details such as your name, email address, and profile image when you sign in with Apple or Google.
- Authentication and session records such as cookies, secure device tokens, sign-in sessions, IP address, and user-agent information used to keep accounts working and protect the service.
- Meal vote data such as vote names, shared links, participant names, restaurant shortlists, votes, saved groups, and results.
- Location-related data you choose to provide, including search areas, map lookups, reverse-geocoded current location requests, and nearby restaurant searches.
- Device-side recents and convenience data stored locally in browser storage or iPhone secure storage to remember recent vote names, places, and onboarding state.
- Subscription and purchase status needed to manage premium access across web and iPhone.
- Business contact details if you submit a restaurant claim or sponsorship-related inquiry.
- Basic technical information needed to operate the service, prevent abuse, and debug issues.
How we use information
- Run the core product, including creating meal votes, sharing invites, collecting votes, and ranking results.
- Remember recent activity and make future meal votes faster to set up.
- Authenticate users, sync accounts across devices, and enforce free or premium plan limits.
- Support billing, restore purchases, and confirm premium access.
- Maintain security, investigate misuse, and improve reliability.
- Measure sponsored placements and restaurant claim workflows when those features are used.
When information is shared
We share information only as needed to operate the service. That can include hosting, database, authentication, maps or place-search, and billing providers that help power the app.
Information shown inside a shared meal vote is also visible to the people taking part in it. For example, participants can see the vote name, shortlist, votes or vote summaries where applicable, and the final result.
Location, maps, and restaurant data
Whatever, You Pick uses location and place-search services to help hosts find nearby restaurants. Those searches are used to return restaurant options and related details inside the app.
On the web, location access is only requested if you choose to use your current location in the browser. On iPhone, foreground location access is only requested if you tap the current-location action. The product is not designed to track your location continuously in the background.
Billing, sponsored placements, and premium access
If you purchase premium, billing is handled by the payment channel used for that purchase, such as Apple in-app purchase or an approved web billing provider. The service does not store full payment card numbers.
We may store entitlement, subscription, product, store, and transaction-status details needed to unlock and restore premium features.
If sponsored discovery placements are active, the service may log campaign events such as impressions, clicks, additions to a meal vote, votes, winner outcomes, or directions opens so those campaigns can be measured and audited.
Retention and your choices
We keep information for as long as it is reasonably needed to run the service, maintain accounts, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and prevent abuse.
You can control some device-side history by clearing local browser storage, signing out, or deleting local app data. If you stop using the service, some information may remain in backups, logs, or shared meal-vote records for a reasonable period.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When that happens, we will post the updated version here and change the last updated date on this page.
Questions or requests
For privacy questions, access requests, or deletion requests, use the public support contact listed for Whatever, You Pick.
If you are using a shared browser or phone, clearing local browser or app storage will remove locally remembered vote names, recent locations, and device-stored session tokens from that device.
